You are NEVER buddied up with a stranger!

Kung Fu Divers Drills

This is our scuba practice monthly event.

What happens after you get your Open Water certification? Do you feel ready to go scuba diving with just your buddy? Or would you like to work a bit more on your new skills?

After you get your Search and Recovery specialty, when do you have a chance to work with a lift bag again? Or tie knots?

Would you like to have a taste of Rescue, or prepare for a drift dive by practicing with a DSMB?

We have a different, fun and empowering syllabus at each new session, and it is a great way to stay wet during the winter months, or as preparation for a scuba trip!

Gain confidence in performing your skills if and when needed with practice. Safety to us is always first!

$90 per person

New Divers Chicago, class of 2025

Through September 2025 we will be heavy on Open Water Scuba Certifications here in Chicago. The waters are warmer and local divers are outside enjoying the weather and wrecks, building up a joyful and supportive atmosphere to new divers.

We have been exploring Pearl Lake in South Beloit with its underwater attractions, and we find it ideal for new divers to explore and discover the submarine, the school bus and various submerged boats! We drive together to the site to take advantage of some extra time to dive deeper into the knowledge reviews and talk about all sorts of topics related to SCUBA.

Our Open Water Certification includes:

  • PADI eLearning and Logbook
  • 6 to 8 hrs. of confined water time
  • 4 open water dives
  • Tanks, weights, BCD, regulator, computer, and 7 mm wetsuit/hood/gloves *
  • Caribbean Ecology Class- 1 hour with Maca
  • Photographic record of your experience on surface and underwater
  • Maximum scheduling flexibility
  • Transportation assistance

* Mask, fins, boots, and snorkel are not included, as they are considered basic gear for all students.

A first step to becoming a Rescue Diver!

PADI Rescue Diver

Most certified PADI Rescue Divers look back on their training as one of the most challenging, sometimes demanding, and therefore most rewarding programs they've taken. The subject is serious but the training is fun!

When you first learned to dive in the PADI Open Water Diver course, you focused primarily on yourself and mastered knowledge and skills for taking care of yourself underwater. In this course you are about to enter the next stage, in which your focus broadens further to include other divers.

Become mentally and physically prepared to handle emergency situations with a variety of techniques. Accurately assess a situation and intervene a problem that could potentially become more serious. Improve your skills and confidence as a diver, and prepare to move on to the PADI Master Scuba Diver and PADI Divemaster levels!

Advocates of the Blue Realm Ambassadors of the land

In our efforts to spread the love and respect for the animals we see when we dive, we have combined the PADI Aware specialty with Maca's own Ecology Class.

  • Learn who fish are: Something is going on in their heads. Ocean animals are INDIVIDUALS because of the relationships they build, they are SENTIENT entities whose world is worth contemplating.
  • Who we are to them: Do you know what UMWELT means?*
  • We all live here: tips on how to COEXIST. The PADI AWARE Specialty course equips you with tangible actions and opportunities to bring about positive ocean change.

This course is a unifying and leveling force for professional and recreational divers, kids and teens, and everyone else! We invite you to stop, pay attention, and observe.

* UMWELT= The mind and the world are inseparable because it is the mind that interprets the world for the organism. Because of the individuality and uniqueness of the history of every single organism, the umwelten of different organisms differ.
